Guide to Durbanville

ANNAPURNA
A small haven of originality amid the plastic Americana and franchise clones abounding in the food court of the shopping centre. The menu has a good selection of curries (lamb, chicken, seafood and vegetarian) and tandoori dishes, as well as a few sweets to balance the spicy fare. On weekends there is even a belly dancer to entertain patrons. Which beats by a long shot watching the rugga on the big screen outside. Small wine list, but it boasts award-winning Indian beer.

BLOEMENDAL RESTAURANT
Situated on a hilltop with spectacular views. If carrying heavy plates is your idea of good exercise, the trip up the hill will be well worth your while: heap up the boerekos like your ouma used to make from the daily buffet. Everything from bredie and bobotie to koeksisters and trifle. A bit on the heavy side and without any frills attached, but you will most certainly not leave hungry.

POPLARS
Classy, up-market dining with a playful touch in a old farm house with tasteful interior ambience and a peaceful pastoral setting. A range of interesting fusion foods with the emphasis on freshness and flavour. The presentation and service add to the delightful experience. Some-what pricey, but then this is certainly at the top end of the list of restaurants in the area. Breakfasts, catering, spitbraai functions and cottages also available. The wine list is more than adequate, including some local wines. A few also available by the glass.
