DE LEUWEN JAGT

LABORIE RESTAURANT
The well-known winery restaurant is set behind white-washed walls in 17th century Huguenot vineyards beneath the massive granite boulders of Paarl Rock. A tourist landmark for relaxed dining over traditional Cape fare. Lunches are served on the terrace under ancient oaks. Signature dishes include a Cape platter that showcases bobotie, smoorsnoek and denningvleis, kudu fillet in port jus, oxtail and slow-roasted springbok shanks. After a glass of the flagship Jean Taillefert Shiraz, indulge in a digestif of Pineau de Laborie. Laborie and Paarl wines.

MARC'S MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE & GARDEN
The lemon trees, garden and ponds make the kind of country scene Monet painted at Giverny. Chef Marc Friederich (ex Il Casale at Ashanti) hails from the Alsace, cooks Cape Provencal and is yet another newcomer to Main Street. He tempts savoury palates with an A to Z of Club Med cuisine in the form of manyflavoured meze, gazpacho, freshly-baked breads, paella and mussels. If you know your babaganoush from your tabouleh, try a signature dish with a local flavour: baked goat's cheese in filo pastry or panfried salmon trout fillet with gratinated haloumi and couscous. Newly renovated in mid-2004. A good selection of regional wines is available.

THE RESTAURANT AT PONTAC
Situated in an atmospheric old 17th century manor house in a garden setting, the restaurant has been restored in the vernacular style with gun slits for sentries, bricked-in chicken nests, landscape murals and the original stone fireplace. New chef Craig McGeean (ex Fancourt and Ballon Rouge) has taken over the kitchen of the Victorian guesthouse, deconstructing taste and texture in the style of Spanish supremo Ferran Adria. Imagine smoked salmon with baked pear cheesecake or deep-fried blue cheese ravioli with sweet potato and honey ice-cream or lamb loin with cardamom carrot cake. The ambience is intimate with a gastronomic accent on natural flavours. Paarl wines to choose from.
