Guide to
ASU-MA'S
Open and breezy in summer while cosy in winter, especially after a few cups of sake, this adaptable, Zen-like space offers some of the best Japanese cuisine in town. Traditionalists will relish authentic dishes prepared by the Japanese master-trained chef, while adventurous palates can pick and choose from more contemporary fare. Fresher fish is simply not to be found, while the rolls happily don?t fall apart in your soy sauce always a good sign. With its clean but not stark interior, expect plenty of good chi along with a splendid sea view from the deck. Wine list is basic but suitably inexpensive.

CHAPMAN'S PEAK HOTEL
Regulars make frequent homages for what is surely the tastiest, most tender calamari in town, served up in pans with heaps of moreish fries, along with a good dose of sea air, mountain views and buzzy atmosphere. The broad balcony overflows whatever the season, though somehow you'll always be found a table by accommodating staff, even if it means first grabbing a drink at the jolly pub. Extensive menu offers good, unpretentious seafood choices along with grills that can also be enjoyed inside in separate dining rooms for smokers and non-smokers. Vast, detailed wine list with some excellent choices.

LA CUCCINA
Spacious deli and restaurant, packed from breakfast through coffee-and-cake time, lunch and afternoon tea. Plate-by-weight buffets are delectable. Salads, quiches, pastas and casseroles are tasty, and vegetarians have more than enough to choose from. Most ingredients are organic; fill your basket and take some home as well. Bakes, coffees and teas are equally divine.
